Academic Expectations
1	The Cranston High School West graduate will exhibit proficient communication skills through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
	Targeted Achievements:
		1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4	Write effectively using standard English and/or world languages in a variety of formats for a variety of purposes and audiences. Speak effectively, communicating ideas and information in a variety of circumstances. Demonstrate active listening. Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend, process, evaluate and utilize print and visual material from a variety of genres.
2	The Cranston High School West graduate will demonstrate effective utilization of the problem solving/research process.
	Targeted Achievements:
		2.1 2.2	Utilize and demonstrate higher order thinking skills to research, analyze, and evaluate information from a variety of sources to address a specific task. Identify and apply concepts, methods, and skills to solve problems and recognize connections to society.
3	The Cranston High School West graduate will engage in and will be culturally aware of a wide variety of visual or performing art through response, creation, and performance.
	Targeted Achievements:
		3.1 3.2 3.3	Response to Art Forms: Use higher order critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate: artistic processes, organizational principles, connections to society and culture, and characteristics of exemplar and/or personal work. Creation of Art Forms: Synthesize artistic concepts, techniques, elements, skills and interdisciplinary knowledge to create an original composition using various media Performance of Art Forms: Demonstrate a varied repertoire in theater and/or music with technical accuracy and skill.
4	The Cranston High School West graduate will be able to use technology as it relates to everyday life.
	Targeted Achievement:
		4.1	Utilize and apply appropriate technology (software and hardware) to locate, analyze, organize, produce, and communicate information in a technology-rich society.
5	The Cranston High School West graduate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of health and physical fitness skills to develop a healthy lifestyle.
	Targeted Achievements:
		5.1 5.2	Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the concepts related to living a healthy life and making healthy choices. Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the influences of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.
6	The Cranston High School West graduate will be able to understand and communicate knowledge of essential principles that apply to civics, history, economics, geography, and other social sciences.
	Targeted Achievements:
		6.1 6.2 6.3 6.4	Demonstrate and apply democratic and social principles and practices and the steps necesssary to take action within a political system Utilize historical and contemporary evidence to formulate positions and demonstrate an understanding of current issues. Analyze basic global economic issues that affect individuals and nations. Demonstrate an awareness of religious and cultural diversity and its impact upon society.
Social Expectation
	The Cranston High School West graduate is a respectful, ethical, responsible, and a courteous individual, who can work both independently and cooperatively by following the rules outlined in the Cranston Public Schools Student Handbook.
Civic Expectation
	The Cranston High School West graduate is a contributing member of his/her community, and as such functions as an informed, involved citizen who advocates for positive changes in surrounding environment.
